Amidst the news of the Big Bang members extending their contracts with YG Entertainment for another 5 years, it has also been revealed that the group and the company discussed and settled upon new agreements.

Big Bang is expected to embark on a new path in the music industry to gain recognition as artists rather than just idols. In order to strip away from the typical idol image that is prevalent in the K-pop scene today, Big Bang will be launching a more advanced music style.

Through a recent phone call with OSEN, Yang Hyun Suk revealed, “[The] Big Bang members have extended their contracts to another 5 years, and they will be creating a different music style. The members have promised to work even harder in order to be recognized as artists rather than idols.”

Big Bang already stands prominently in terms of high-quality music and impressive stage presence, so many fans are highly anticipative of what the group will be bringing to the table.

After their Electric Love Tour, BIGBANG will have another concert tour in Japan, the Love & Hope Tour 2011.

The tour will start on May 10 and will end on May 18. A total of 7 concerts will be held. The concerts will be held in Nagoya, Chiba and Osaka.

Numerous professionals from the music industry recently got together to rank the best and worst sounding idol groups and idol group members, the results of which were recently published through a special Chosun News report.

The Best of the Best
2AM came in 1st place for the best singing idol group with a total of 11 points, which was achieved partly by their hit song ‘Can’t Let You Go Even if I Die‘. “The lead singers and sub-vocalists are able to keep their voices stable at any given part of any song, and their talents are all just about even.”

Big Bang achieved 2nd place with a total of 8 points and their reviews read, “Due to their great musical skills, and a spectacular continuation of team effort, they scored well.” Coming in 3rd place for the best singing idol groups are the Brown Eyed Girls with 6 points. “Their live singing pitch and breath has always been maintained very well. Emotions are also expressed well.”

Big Bang released their new Special Edition album with 3 new songs, “Love Song”, “Stupid Liar” and Daesung’s “Baby Don’t Cry″ on April 8th online and it has been charting on the online and offline music chart instantly.

Riding on the success of their previous mini-album “Tonight”, Big Bang has beat out the competition by charting higher than recent releases and taking the #2 spot on Hanteo’s real-time album charts immediately, proving their popularity.

Daesung’s solo “Baby Don’t Cry”, first performed at Big Bang’s last 2011 BIG SHOW Concert, has also managed to get in the top 10 on music sites with it’s slow and sad melody while “Love Song” takes on a new style never heard from Big Bang. “Stupid Liar” features a fast and strong guitar riff with some rock tendencies.

Meanwhile, Big Bang will return to their domestic promotions on April 10th via SBS’s Inkigayo.

On April 4th, the members of Big Bang guested on MBC’s “Come to Play“, and finally spoke out on the rumors regarding their disbandment.

Heading into their fifth year this year, the group has gone through a series of disbandment rumors every time the members came out with solos or unit activities. Idols are notoriously known for the ‘five-year-jinx’.

Daesung, who participated in the special through a phone call, explained, “There were honestly a lot of moments where we were at risk of disbanding, especially with our recent album. We fought a lot while preparing for it, since all of us had gone through solos or units, and now had to deal with differences in opinions.”

Taeyang continued, “After about four years, we all delved into separate activities that made us think on separate paths. The amount of time we spent meeting up became less and less, and I felt that we were growing distant. When CEO Yang Hyun Suk told us that we weren’t like we used to be, we wondered if we had lost our rookie mindset.”

T.O.P. stated, “We were also upset with the rumors that people were making up and the one-sided way they were viewing us.”

When asked about how they were going to overcome these obstacles and become a long-term group, the members revealed that they would not be focusing on money and popularity, and that they’d be protecting their rights of belief, hope, and private lives.

Daesung concluded, “Since we’re like family, I hope that we’ll remain as good brothers for a long, long time as a group.”
